George Tooker often depicted the tensions of modern life and inhuman bureaucracies. As a gay man, active in the Civil Rights movement, Tooker explored boundary-breaking subjects in his work while also conjuring powerful scenes of quiet beauty. This program provides an introduction to the artist, his life and his remarkable body of work. Image: George Tooker. Window II, 1956. Private Collection.
