The Renaissance in Northern Europe was a period of ground-breaking artistic achievement. Artists like Albrecht Durer and Pieter Bruegel the Elder created works that described daily life in astonishing detail, often with religious overtones. This program introduces leading artists from the period and decodes their meticulously rendered symbols. Image: Albrecht Durer. Self-Portrait, 1500. Alte Pinakothek, Munich.
