Compelling Questions: Why Is It Regrettable But Necessary To Label Autism A Disability?

Compelling Questions: Why Is It Regrettable But Necessary To Label Autism A Disability?

This presentation will delve into the upsides and downsides of describing autism as being a disability. There are valid reasons for this labeling, though at the same time, the label can do harm, unless strategies which will be discussed are used to keep it from doing harm.

Sam Farmer wears many hats, among these, writer/author, father, husband, musician, computer consultant, and autism spectrum community self-advocate. Diagnosed late with Asperger’s Syndrome, he writes blogs and articles for various media outlets and presents at conferences and support groups, sharing stories, ideas and insights as to how one can achieve greater happiness and success in the face of challenges and adversity. A Long Walk Down a Winding Road – Small Steps, Challenges, & Triumphs Through an Autistic Lens is his first book.

This program is paid for by the Marjorie Scoboria Fund.
