Climate Conversations: TED Talks on Climate Change
Katharine Hayhoe's TED Talk is aptly titled: "The Most Important Thing You Can Do to Fight Climate Change: Talk About It." How do you talk to someone who doesn't believe in climate change? Not by rehashing the same data and facts we've been discussing for years, says climate scientist Katharine Hayhoe. In this inspiring, pragmatic talk, Hayhoe shows how the key to having a real discussion is to connect over shared values like family, community and religion -- and to prompt people to realize that they already care about a changing climate. "We can't give in to despair," she says. "We have to go out and look for the hope we need to inspire us to act -- and that hope begins with a conversation, today."
We'll watch the talk together and then have a conversation about how to connect with people in our own community to encourage reflection and action. If there's time, we'll also watch the TED Talk by climate psychologist Renee Lertzman, "How to Turn Climate Anxiety into Action."
Join members of the Chelmsford Climate Action Team (C-CAT) and the Massachusetts Chapter of Elders Climate Action for discussions and action to address climate change in our community.
Climate Conversations is an informal group sponsored by CCAT and the Chelmsford Public Library. We meet on the second Thursday of each month using Zoom to share our concerns about Climate Change. Public invited. Meetings most often include guest speakers. We share a commitment to climate legislation, advocacy and education in our community to prevent the harmful effects of climate change and protect our planet.
