"Real Reads" - a Non-fiction Book Club

Registration is required. There are 10 seats available.

Real Reads is our non-fiction reading discussion group. We will explore excellent authors and world-changing ideas on urgent issues affecting the globe and our own back yards.

December's Real Reads title is They Poisoned the World: Life and Death in the Age of Forever Chemicals by Mariah Blake. The author has documented grassroots actions in five rural areas across the United States where large industrial production facilities have been allowed to operate and pollute local environments with no substantial regulation. In each space "forever chemicals," which do not diminish in their toxicity over time or have a known mitigation method, are prolific and have been connected to numerous illnesses and health impacts.

The book is a companion to the Films for Futures documentary film selection, Running for the Mountains by Julie Eisenberg and Babette Hogan. You can watch Running for the Mountains HERE on Kanopy. It's free with your library card, and completely optional for the book conversation.

Copies of Running for the Mountains will be available at the Borrower Services desk beginning mid-November. Contact Todd Bowser with any questions.
