"Real Reads" - a Non-fiction Book Club
Real Reads is our non-fiction reading discussion group. We will explore excellent authors and world-changing ideas on urgent issues affecting the globe and our own back yards.
October's Real Reads title is Empire of AI by Karen Hao. The author has written for The Atlantic and the Wall Street Journal, and spent seven years covering the tech industry and the exponential growth of the technologies marketed as "artificial intelligence." This book is the culmination of that exploration and research, including over 300 interviews with people in and around OpenAI, one of the kefirms building these technologies, that saw explosive growth and internal turmoil that came along with that evolution. The book is a companion to the Films for Futures documentary film selection, Lo and Behold, Reveries of the Connected World, directed by Werner Herzog. You can watch Lo and Behold HERE on Kanopy. It's free with your library card, and completely optional for the book conversation.
