"Real Reads" - a Non-fiction Book Club- HYBRID

Registration is required. There are 12 in-person seats available. There are 20 online seats available.

Real Reads is our new non-fiction reading discussion group. We will explore excellent authors and world-changing ideas on urgent issues affecting the globe and our own back yards.

We will meet every fourth Saturday at 3 p.m. in person in the Conference Room and virtually on Zoom.

This month, we will discuss Cobalt Red : How the Blood of the Congo Powers Our Lives by Siddharth Kara. From electric cars to smartphones to tablets to laptops, the 21st century is dependent on cobalt, a key ingredient in the lithium-ion rechargeable batteries that power our devices. At least 70% of the world's cobalt is mined in the Congo. Siddarth Kara explores the brutal conditions faced by children and other highly vulnerable people working to extract the materials that help our lives run while making tech giants unimaginably rich.
